Great product and fantastic services this is now my 4 watch from watch shop and would recommend them to anybody looking for a quality product and a quality price.
Very good looking watch. It might be a little thick for some but thats a automatic for you. The strap catch irritates my wrist it is sharp against my skin so I have bought a Tissot bracelet to suit I would have liked both in the box like some other suppliers offer. One comment is on the wide range of prices available for this watch. From the low £400s to to over £600. Why? Overall very pleased with my purchase.
I bought this watch to tell the time, to look great the watch, not necessarily me and because I value precision engineering. With a bit of care, it more than meets my requirements, especially on the looks front!
The picture of this watch does not do it justice. The colour of the face is a warm cream rather than stark white, which blends well with the leather-look strap and gives it a very classy feel. Also, the hour markers, hands and thin rings around the smaller dials employ subtle changes in angle which catch the light and give the piece an elegant shimmer. It is very well presented on arrival and comes with a book about Tissot’s history, which was nice but I just skimmed as it appeared a bit dry.
Being an automatic winding, I will never have to worry about changing the battery and the knowledge that the whole mechanism operates from a highly tuned weight, spring and gear system, rather than something as crude as electricity and a rock, is a constant source of pleasure. You can observe the mechanism through a window in the back, showing the escapement rocking back and forth.
One downside to the mechanical movement is the accuracy Tissot maintains an accuracy of -0.5s +0.7s per day for quartz movements but only -10s +30s per day for mechanical movements support.tissot.ch/?mod_faq. Like me, you may, therefore, have adjust the time regularly. Mine has varied between 2min and 30s slow over a week. This did surprise me when I found out but it hasn’t put me off it may also have something to do with my use of the chronograph –see below.
The other downside is the size. If you don’t like chunky watches then this probably isn’t for you. At 15mm thick, it sits pretty high on your wrist. You’ll be hard pushed to find a shirt cuff that fits over it, but on the plus side, it’s always on show!
Upon receipt I was disappointed to find that the strap is not leather. It is a foam core with what appears to be a polyurethane decorative outer. I am surprised and confused by Tissot’s decision on this. For a watch at this price, I would expect a quality leather strap I don’t expect this synthetic material to last as long. That being said, it looks great and the butterfly clasp prevents any need to bend the strap by any large amount so abrasion is the only real risk here mine is showing small signs of wear where it rests on the desk.
Adjusting the strap is easy. No tools are required just rotate the end of the clasp until the pin pops out of the hole, slide to the desired hole and rotate back into place.
Another disappointment I encountered was to find that the large ‘seconds’ hand on the face operates only for the chronograph function. During normal operation it remains static at 12 o’clock and the smaller seconds dial to the left indicates the true time. I have corrected this by having the chronograph running 24/7, as I prefer to see time ticking away – maybe as a subtle reminder that time waits for no-one! The seconds hands move 4 times per second which does give an appearance close to the desirable smooth transition of some other watches.
Finally, the hands do have illuminating sections but you’ll be hard pushed to read them in the dark. A charge under a bright light will have them shining for half an hour or so but anything close to ambient lighting barely has any effect.
